A shield buys back a day you missed, so your streak keeps going.
A shield is your backup for a day you did not play. Miss one day and one shield covers it. Miss two days and two shields cover them. Your streak keeps its number either way. Shields are spent for you overnight, so there is nothing you need to tap. If you do not have enough shields to cover every day you missed, the ones you have are still used, but your streak ends. Your next lesson day starts a new streak at 1.
